There have been many stories over the centuries that have the ability to grab you out of reality, shake up your world, and take you on a journey, full of excitement and wonder but none have run as long as “The Doctor Who” series, the first episode of which premiered in 1963. Back in those days it seemed to me that the special effects needed to really bring the stories to life, did not yet exist, and I often chuckled at the tin foil aliens. Many have remarked to me over the years that, Doctor Who is relegated to the land of nerds, but if the movie, “21 Jump Street” has taught me anything, it’s that the world’s opinion of so-called “nerds” is changing and being a nerd is becoming cool, i.e. Napolean Dynamite, The Big Bang Theory, and most of Silicon Valley, and so on. And, If there ever were a champion of nerds, a nerd hero, if you will, it would be the latest incarnation of The bow tie clad Doctor, played by the incomparable Matt Smith. The newest Doctor Who series finally has the special effects to back up the awesome writing and it has made it one of my favorite shows. So, you can imagine how overjoyed I was while watching the latest episode, “The Bells Of Saint John” to see my beloved Doctor careening around London on a gorgeous looking Triumph motorcycle. I literally cheered, the coolest nerd in any time, place, universe or, dimension, I think I covered all possible bases there, maybe? With The Doctor you never know……theme song plays……and I’m out!
