Philip Seymour Hoffman: An Epitaph and a half. 1967-2014

Philip-Seymour-Hoffman_lAs some of you may know, if you have read a few of my stories, I sometimes like to sound off when certain entertainers pass from this life, I am not sure why? My goal of course is to write about stunts, film, acting, and that sort of thing. And though, that is important to me for some reason it is also important to record the milestone, when a great talent passes from this life. I guess this due to my belief that if one is remembered, and not, just as a passing thought but, you know, to be made part of the world through thoughts. When you do this you make that person a part of life again and therefore they aren’t dead and gone forever. When I heard of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s passing I have to admit I was taken aback. I was also moved to write this as a farewell note to him.
I have also been affected greatly by addiction in my life and have battled those demons myself. I have read comments from people who say he was a drug addict like any other drug addict and that is true, yes. But, I feel if the memory of how he passed can help even one person to deal with their addiction(s) maybe he would even say that there is some silver lining to be found here? It is tragic beyond words to me but it goes to show no matter how rich, famous, talented and good-looking, you may be, we all end up in the same place in the end. Philip spoke of this and he talked about how he was affected by addiction, he was an open, honest and, a very brave human being! He left a legacy of A+++ to infinity, material and touched many of us, including myself, with his performances. And, since, that is what I am left with, that is what I will celebrate and I will celebrate it often and with great vigour, because that is what he would have wanted, don’t you think?  Sadly, there will be no further performances from Mr Hoffman but that shouldn’t stop us from enjoying the ones that he left us. It is my belief that if you don’t deal with the underlying reason(s) that causes you to self medicate, you can never get truly break free from the chains of addiction. Sometimes the battle begins at figuring out the reason, and since its underlying it can be difficult to know what it even is.  I don’t profess any kind of professional advice here, this is only my personal opinion. As for Philip, I bid you a warm and fond farewell. Your image will always bring my mind to the wonderful performaces you gave us and I will always hold that part of you close to my heart, as for the rest, not gonna dwell there. Goodnight dear man………..
